Limbo Radio

limbo.live

A non-profit, community driven radio station which streams live, every day, from 4pm —10pm.

Showcasing a plethora of unbelievably talented disk-jockeys and creatives with a focus on giving the residents of Manchester a platform to express their abilities while simultaneously attracting notable figures from across the country and even throughout Europe.

Limbo had generated most of its popularity through social media, mostly instagram. By posting a photo of the DJ’s and the set-times while accompanying the post with a piece of artwork from a local creative - giving young and old artists the opportunity to show their following what they’re made of.

After 3 years of running the station above a sandwich shop in the heart of Fallowfield the opportunity arose to move the studio to the Donwtex Mill, which is a creative hub full of studio spaces and also the nightclub, Hidden.

Project 1.

Website Design

The old website they had was limited to playing and pausing the audio player with no navigation. My job was to design an interface that would utilise the space so people can explore the website and really get a real feel for what Limbo Radio does and represents. By adding functionalities such as: live video streaming, up-to-date scheduling, ability to explore the archive of mixes, blogs and stories, resident profile pages and an online merchandise store: as a basis to start with and build upon.

Pitch Faders

Since the relaunch I made it my responsibility to start a 5-a-side football team. This is a tremendous way to bond with the team of volunteers and also a good way to promote the station to a student audience with branded and sponsored kits.

Project 3.

48 Hour Relaunch Schedule

For the broadcasting relaunch and the unveiling of the new studio, we organised 48 straight hours of radio. Featuring over 43 different acts, some old faces and some new, as well as established artists who travelled from outside of Manchester to be involved like Bruce, Arma and Dr. Banana & OK Williams.

The relaunch was featured by mixmag, FACT mag, CRACK magazine, iLOVEmanchester and Manchester’s Finest!

As the website schedule we had developed was unable to present a straight 48 hours-worth of listings, I thought that it would be best to create a timeline for the website banner that simply lists what times and who on what day for people to follow easily.

I created a template for each artist to upload to our social media platforms. The template was consistently black and yellow, however the primary and secondary colours of the frame changed each time a new DJ took control of the decks.

The great thing about the schedule I designed for the website banner is that it was heavily reliant on a grid system, so it was rather simple to transfer the information to a new art-board/size. I was able to break the 48 hours into four 12 hour schedules which were perfect size for posting on instagram/facebook stories.

Putting this much time into presenting each individual artist meant that we maintained a constant engagement from our followers while acquiring new listeners and exposing our audience to the revised brand guidelines I had created with the intention to bring some more recognition to the station; the relaunch was a great way to engrain our new-look brand in the minds of our audience.

A1 Wall Planner

To kick off the new year I designed a 12 month wall planner for the year of 2020. Branded all planners are great ways to build a reliable and trustworthy following and community. Apart from using it to schedule upcoming personal events, it’s also a great way for people to make note of upcoming nights and events. Those people who buy a wall planner will be visually reminded of Limbo everytime they see it and that could potentially be there difference in whether someone tunes in on that day or not!

Soup Kitchen Takeover

Every two months, Limbo Radio takes over the top floor of the well-respected bar and nightclub, Soup Kitchen. It was my job to create promotional material for the event.

Limbo Fleece Collaboration w/ Millie Rose Textiles

As part of a series of collaborations with Millie Rose Textiles, I photographed models wearing them. As the models weren’t ‘actual models’, the team made the decision to leave their faces out of it. I decided to replace their faces with the Harvey Ball’s smiley face.

Within half an hour we had sold 2 fleeces. By the 24 hour mark we were completely sold out!

What a great response to a brilliant collaboration with Millie Rose Textiles.
