LOVE MCR 22
on 22 May 2017, the Manchester Arena was bombed and twenty-two innocent people’s lives were taken from us.
I was part-time employed by Manchester Arena at the time. Luckily for me, I was not booked in to work on the concession stalls that day.
I wanted to do something to help support those who were suffering but I was a student with little money and out of a job for the foreseeable; so I designed a symbol to commemorate those precious souls we lost on that awful day.
The symbol is made up of 22 hexagons. The hexagon is an iconic shape which is at the centre of Manchester’s history. Lending the shape from the honeybee, they represent community and togetherness. A hexagon for each of the departed and when combined in such a way they create a love heart.
Love wins, every, single, time.
I created a range of products as a means of raising some money for the grieving families. All profits go to charity.
The dream would be to create this into a sculpture which people could interact with while it stood proudly in Manchester’s St. Ann’s Square.
